A Trip to Boston...just thinking

Our trip to Boston was so fulfilling. Finally we were able to see children of all ages with Down syndrome. Now this doesnt seem like such a big thing to other people but to us it was comforting. We enjoyed loving on all the babies and talking to the kids. It was so much fun watching the teens trying to be cool and the adults reaching goals.
And other parents...there were other parents like us, insecure, not sure if we able to or evem deserve the privledge of raising Artie...

One thing I learned about this journey we are taking is that joy is everywhere, as is sadness. There is common thread among humans, the feelings and hopes. It is life. The life of a special little boy who wandered into our arms and grabbed our heart. The theme was well stated..."more alike than differnet"

Enter the drawing for a Blackberry and Bring Raina Home!!

Someone with a kind heart posted this...
The day that I first met my son, Xander, is fast approaching and I wanted to do something to honor that day and to also raise money for Reece's Rainbow. So, I'm giving away my Blackberry Curve. All the details are on my blog, but basically it's an auction. A $5 entry will get your name in one time for the drawing. Every penny in the auction will be given to Reece's Rainbow to be placed in the grant fund for little Raina who is waiting in Bulgaria. I chose Raina because she, like Xander, has Down syndrome and clubbed feet. So, if you'd like a chance to win my Blackberry and also to help out RR, check out my blog! And, if you have a blog, PLEASE mention this on your blog too. If you don't need or want the Blackberry, you can still enter and if you win, you can resell it on ebay Help me help a waiting angel on Reece's Rainbow!
Here are all the details:

Check it out!

Last Wednesday's notes

My little one is in OR now.

He will be in for about 4 hours they say.

He is doing well and is strong so I feel it will be a success.

An interesting note...the OR nurse felt she had to share. She said her daughter graduated with a degree in something (I am a tired mama) and couldnt get work. She said she took a job as a house mother for 5 men in their 40's that had Down syndrome about 5 years ago. She said she always felt sorry for people when she heard they had "that". It seems her view changed when her daughter asked to bring them over for a cookout. She said she was very nervous but they were the most delightful well mannered men she had ever met. She found it interesting that they were dedicated to each other and taking care of each other. She said that they were a family and very close. She also noted that none of them had parents living or extended family. I reminded her that every child was full of possibility and thanked her for her story.

I realized later that one of my fears as an older parent is just that. Knowing my child might be alone in later years. As I thought about it I felt better. Of course I teach him life skills and encourage independence. I just have to keep remembering that he can do it. He will be fine today and he will be fine in the future...but I still need prayer!

Tears of a touched heart

Artie had his surgery and it was wonderfully successful. Thanks to the hospital and staff and doctor. And thanks to everyone here for their prayers.
The daycare/preschool that he now attends showed such loving concern. We were just getting in the room the day out of surgery and in comes a beautiful "get well" balloon and a stuffed "shining star" frog with a link to the international star registry to name a star for him. LOL...now we all know they dont own the stars to sell the rights to name a star...but isnt that cool?

And today when we got home the director called and said she wanted to drive the school bus by and beep the horn for him. They came out of their way and drove the little white school bus by as we sat out front singing "wheels on the bus" and when they came by they beeped the horn! He had a fit!! He wanted to get on the bus! To top it off they stopped the bus and hand delivered a card his class made for him.

Did I cry? Yes, silly tired mama that I am. I boo hooed big time.
