Just an update...we were lost!

We have been so busy with homeschool, therapies and well, life.  I wanted to update and let others know we are on our way back into surgery very soon.  I just cant get used to that.  To know that it has to keep happening.  One day I hope it will stop.  I want to see that smile every day.  I hope one day it does not require surgery of the magnitude he has to undergo for him to live.  Too much.  Sweet boy.

Day 12

Day 12
31 for 21!!

Ok I could rush in and fill in the missing days that I posted on face book...but instead why don't I point out that I am not perfect or a saint?  Just because I have a kid I adore and fight for every day doesnt mean that I am 'holier than thou'.  I am not chosen, stronger or outstanding in any way.  Any one of you (pointing a folks who do not have a "special needs" kiddo) would fight for your child.  And you get too busy and make mistakes too...

really then, we are so much alike!  My family and yours...

So I will leave you with my dinophant encounter today.  Imagination at its best!
The dinophant came out of nowhere...(ok, the bedroom) and attacked!

He chased the therapist and mom...even threatening the biggest of the...

dinosaurs in the corner!!

"Enough OT and ST!  Enough!" he roared!  "Now I will show you!  I will roar and make you go 'Ahhhh! help me, help me!  A dinophant is getting me!' you'll see!"

I have never seen a cuter dinophant in my life!  LOL!

Even if I do make mistakes, run late and forget to post, I am loved by a dinophant.
That makes it all ok in my world!

He met Tim the tennis ball, who eats!  LOL

And what man can resist tool sets?

And the winner is...TY CHRISTIAN! Yes sir, for completing all of your OT, you win a well used Deigo camera! Right from the yard sale! LOL

I love his adventures!

31 for 21! Day 4, need I say more?

The most beautiful eyes in the world.

All people...31 for 21, Day 3

All people have different levels of cognitive development.
All people have weaknesses.

That being said I submit the following:

All people with Down syndrome experience cognitive delays, but the effect is usually mild to moderate and is not indicative of the many strengths and talents that each individual possesses.
Quality educational programs, a stimulating home environment, good health care, and positive support from family, friends and the community enable people with Down syndrome to develop their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

For instance my son was able to read his Pre K and K sight words very early.  I was encouraged when a teacher came to work with him and was astonished.  She said that she knew kids of the same age could not do that.  She noted those kids needed to get to work on it!

My point being...everyone has strengths.  My son's strength is in reading.  He does not hold a conversation with anyone, but he can read his books.  He is putting sentences together.  He is spelling.  All of us have different levels of cognitive development.  His emotional development is about half his age.  I am not worried.    I love my boy!  I do not compare him with anyone...he is who he is!

Reading is his strength!

And he is proud of it when he does a good job!
I love school time with him!
All people have strengths!

31 For 21! Day Two!

I thought about offering dry facts, even letting cute comments or quips explain.

My conclusion was to let him show the facts about Down syndrome!

Lovin those blues!

Whether or not you have Down syndrome has nothing to do with creativity and happiness!

When he hears music, his love of art comes out!  He plays the drums, sings and even grabs the flute and goes for it.  Yes, he is creative. Yes, he is happy.
We were listening to some blues music today.  Ty grabbed his sunglasses and started playing along!
His joy is plain to see!

Tell me!
